Ivy’s Gifts have raised a truly astonishing amount, and we would like to say a huge thank you to you all for this phenomenal sum. It is testament to Ivy how much good is being done in her name.

We are excited to be able to let you know where some of your amazing fundraising is heading in Oxford Hospitals Charity.

Lego MRI machine

The creation of a model MRI machine, built using Lego, to help ease stress in young patients to avoid unnecessary sedation during the procedure.

Reclining chairs in PICU

The purchase of new reclining chairs in PICU at the John Radcliffe to enable parents to stay by their child’s side whilst they are admitted.

Additional housing options

Providing additional housing for parents who have children staying in newborn intensive care.

Bereavement counselling

Bereavement counselling for parents who sadly lose a child through illness or stillbirth.

Prizes for radio giveaways

A years supply of prizes (£1,000) for children and teenagers who take part in competitions on Hospital Radio programmes during their inpatient stays which have been purchased and are being enjoyed as we speak.

Maternity day beds

2 Buddy day beds for Wallingford Maternity Unit (approx. £2,000) which are currently waiting to be delivered. These are 2 chairs which recline into beds so that partners can be by the side throughout the birth and hospital stay at the Wallingford Hospital.

More parent bed/chairs

4 more parent bed/chairs for Paediatric CDU (Clinical Decision Unit) (approx.. £5,000) which are in the process of being ordered by the Trust. These allow capacity to be increased from 6 to 10, making it possible for a parent or carer, to stay with their child if an overnight admission is required.

COVID relief fund

Throughout the pandemic Oxford Hospitals Charity set up the COVID relief fund to help the staff and patients in their care. This fund went to helping overworked staff with pizza deliveries, purchased much needed PPE and so much more.

These projects, which span the Oxford hospitals, will support children, parents and families from across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and beyond, as well as our brilliant staff.

But don’t just take our word for it.

Please find below some messages from the NHS staff who will be directly benefitting from your support. They wanted you to know the difference your fundraising efforts have made.

Testimonials

‘We are so grateful to everyone who helped us buy our new Lego set. It might sound like a small project, but our Lego model of the MRI scanner is completely interactive – allowing children to see what the scanner looks like before they get there. An MRI scan is a big procedure and we need our young patients to be calm and relaxed before they get scanned, otherwise we might need to sedate them. Playing with the model with the child before their scan makes the whole experience really fun!’

‘On behalf of Children’s Critical Care, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in raising money to help us buy our new reclining chairs. We care for the children that are most unwell, and it is such a difficult time for parents. The new chairs not only mean the parent can stay close to their child, but also gives them a little bit of comfort at a really stressful time. We are so grateful for your support in making this possible.’

‘No one in our hospitals ever wants to meet our team, but if the worst happens – the bereavement team is here to help you through that difficult time. We provide the advice and support to help provide a little reassurance in a very challenging time, and thanks to the support of generous donors we are now able to help more families who have sadly lost a child. Our bereavement support is not just counselling, but an entirely tailored experience for the whole family.’

‘For the whole family, a stay in Newborn Intensive Care, can be incredibly stressful. Alongside the worry of their child being ill, parents may be dealing with other children at home who need their care, the after-effects of delivery and pregnancy as well as all the practical concerns about being away from normal life. Being able to offer them a place to lay their head, just minutes away from their child in hospital, is a complete lifeline whether that child is under our care for four days or four months. In 2020, we will be able to offer all our families a place to stay in the new Ronald McDonald House that is currently being built in the John Radcliffe Hospital grounds, but until then our accommodation is a vital tool in caring for all our families. And, on behalf of all our families, we are so grateful to everyone involved with Ivy’s Gifts for supporting this project.’

‘Oxford Hospitals Charity is here to make a difference to patients and staff across our hospitals, but that is only possible because of the support of people like you. On behalf of everyone at the charity, I would like to say a huge thank you to all those who have been involved in raising this amazing amount of money. It is a great privilege to be able to be a small part of Ivy’s Gifts, and to see her doing good in our hospitals! We very much look forward to all you have planned over the coming months, it has been a pleasure working with you.’
